Your levy and how it's used

for R&D and Marketing

PAPAYA LEVY FUNDS

Hort Innovation manages the papaya levy funds directed to research and development (R&D) and marketing.

In 2021/22 a total of $334,551 of papaya levies were collected by the Government and passed on to Hort Innovation for investment.

The grower-raised statutory papaya R&D levy is set at one cent per kilogram for fresh fruit and 0.25 cents per kilogram for processing fruit. The marketing levy is set at one cent per kilogram for fresh fruit.

PAPAYA STRATEGIC INVESTMENT PLAN (SIP)

The Papaya Strategic Investment Plan 2022-26 (SIP) has been developed to guide investment in the priority areas identified and agreed by the industry.
The SIP lists four desired outcomes for the papaya industry from levy investment over the next five years:

1. Demand creation: Demand creation supports the Australian papaya industry to develop existing and future domestic markets

2. Industry supply, productivity, and sustainability: The Australian papaya industry has increased profitability, efficiency, and sustainability through innovative R&D, sustainable BMPs and varieties

3. Extension and capability: Improved capability and an innovative culture in the Australian papaya industry maximises investments in productivity and demand

4. Business insights: The Australian papaya industry is more profitable through informed decision-making using consumer knowledge and tracking, production statistics and benchmarking and independent reviews
